When beauty of artistic images and precision of geometric drawings merge in the great Harmony, they reflect the multidimensional nature of Genius.
The stone dedicated to Italy is based on a drawing by Filippo Brunelleschi—an architect, engineer, mechanic, mathematician, artist, and goldsmith, whom Leonardo da Vinci considered his mentor. Among his works is a drawing of the rotunda of Santa Maria delle Angeli, located in his native Florence. The precision and harmony of this drawing are simply astounding. This very design is reproduced on the crown of the stone, highlighted by matte edges. On the pavilion, we see three stars inscribed one within another. They symbolize the three fields harmoniously combined in the work of the "universal men," the polymaths of the Renaissance—crafts, science, and art.
